Overaa, how do you do it?

So, Overaa out bid us again on another project. We're not quite sure how they can afford to build jobs for as cheap as they do.

We would like some of the Overaa employees to join the site so we can pick their brains. Good healthy competition is always good. If anyone has their contact info (or any of our other competitors), send them an invite.

  • Peter,

You are absolutely right. Mistakes can easily be made on estimates in both directions. Overaa is a competitor of ours in the water/wastewater arena in northern California. I've talked with other companies that have worked on projects with Overaa they have a good reputation. There are a couple of Overaa employees on the site and we're excited to have them onboard.

However, being second to Overaa on several projects over the past couple of years is at times hard to take. But the competition is good. Our costs are coming down, our management is getting better and our tradesmen are some of the best builders around. Our reputation for taking care of the owners, engineers, construction managers and subcontractors is growing rapidly. We'll survive the slump in the economy and be a better company because of it.

That being said, I'm still interested in how they go so low. Perhaps it's because they are the best water/wastewater construction company in northern California or perhaps, as Steven mentioned above, they have missed something.

  • It's easy to justify a lost bid with "how can they do it so cheap". Why are you so expensive? Does Overaa have the dirtball-low reputation? Are you are always the highest of 4 bidders? Not only are mistakes made that make you low, mistakes often make you high.
