FREE GPS System for Nextel Phones - This Is Pretty Cool I Think!

Access GPS is perfect for construction and field service companies, any company with mobile workers, and even for parents who want to track their children.

Access GPS allows you to track your mobile workers at no cost other than the cost of a $10 Nextel data plan. If you already have a GPS service on your Nextel phone, you are probably already paying for data. Don't spend $15-20 extra for a GPS application when all you want to do is to track your mobile workers.
Features:
- View all of your mobile workers at one time
- Location refresh rates as frequently as every minute
- Only track workers during certain hours and on certain days.
- Only monitor your employees during working hours
- View speed, direction and idle time
- View map of phone's location on the phone
- View up to the last 40 data points
- Store and forward data when out of the Nextel coverage area
- Data is stored for six months on our servers
- Turn off tracking for individual units with a single click
- GPS data is displayed on the handset
- Identify when an employee turns off their phone
- Check signal strength and battery level
- See how many voice and text messages are on the phone
- Know if a user is forwarding their calls to another number

I provided positive feedback on the product "works very well"
Pointed out also that it works "almost too well"
Described a scenario where "the application was misused"
And gave an opinion on policy for the appliance in regards to said misuse.
And if I was misunderstood let me say that I recommend this product with out question. As an analyst Its in my training to point out potential issues or risk with products based on experience(s) in the field.
    4 cents :)

    • Phillip,

Oh I gotcha brother! I posted that more for other readers who may be concerned about abuse. I gathered you are a fan of the technology.

I apologize if I was misunderstood.

Thanks for adding to the discussion!

  • Phillip,

No doubt that "...any GPS application, it is open for misuse" but so is email, web browsing, a fax machinet etc. Some employees are going to try to beat the system...any system.

This program allows for tracking to be turned off after working hours and a company can allow only certain people to login to view the data as well as restrict anyone else from registering.

  • Have used this with a company for a couple of years, it works as explained very well. In certain aspects it works better then one anticipates and returns data you may not want to have seen or were better off not knowing. "Use your imagination"
I caught the employee's hacking into the administrative computer running the software because they were curious about after work habits of a disliked employee, they had hoped to catch some dirt on the employee in question using the GPS locater software.
My point is that the chance of the tracking software being misused is a consideration point in my opinion and for legal reasons should not be company public knowledge rather one senior employee and the System Admin. should be under NDA of some form, and the use of the product should be triggered by poor performance or a set policy infraction.
